  • Hannah

Im really struggling with topic and subject marking particles! What is the difference between A subject and a topic. I cant seem to figure it out!

    • 语彤Jovana

Well because you want to let the other person know what you want to talk about. Then the other person knows what your point is. And subject marking particles are really important c they can change the meaning

  • Leya

  • Kristen Parks

Anyone know which lesson I can find the ending 안아요? Many Koreans use that verb ending. Pardon the spelling

    • Thomas Osekowsky

I think you mean 않아요. this is covered in level 1 lesson 21

      http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/lessons/l1l21/

    • Kristen Parks

No I don’t mean that. I use hello talk and one of my Korean buddies uses 나요 often. Here a sentence 한국어 나오는 채널 많이 보나요?

    • Thomas Osekowsky

ah sorry I was mistaken. adding ~나요 to the end of the verb when asking a question is a way to make soften the question and make it more polite than simply using the ~요 ending.

you could say 한국어 나오는 채널 많이 봐요? but in this case using ~나요 instead simply makes the question more polite, without having to elevate the speech level.

For instance, you could use ~시다, the honorific form. 한국어 나오는 채널 많이 보세요? but in this case you’re elevating the other person by using honorific language. It’s useful for talking to someone of a higher position or older than you, but can sound a little too formal in other cases.

so if you don’t want to use honorific form because it sounds too formal, ~나요? Is a great way to soften a question and make it more polite.

    • Kristen Parks

Thank you and yes you are right. I looked through the TTMIK lessons and did not see it but one of my korean buddies uses it often.

    • Thomas Osekowsky

I don’t think TTMIK has a lesson dedicated to only that topic

  • Jasmin Kostka

I’m currently on LEVEL 2 add me on KAKAO : ID: Itsjazzy
If u wanna study, chat together also help each other out with the particles which are so confusing to me>_<
