  1. Sandy S. Vera V.,

Hello! My questions is about Level 3 regarding linking verbs with -고 and -아/어/여서.

If I were to say the next sentence, which form is best to use? Is there any difference in nuance and meaning?

    1. 공원에 가서 책을 읽을 거예요.
    2. 공원에 가고 책을 읽을 거예요.

  2. Threya Ober,

Hello! When you have the chance, can you please take a quick look at the lessons posted above? I think things got a bit off track. The video for Lessons 13-18 is accidentally posted under the section for Lessons 7-12 (and I don’t believe a video is posted elsewhere here for Lessons 7-12). Also, the video for Lessons 19-24 is accidentally posted under the section for Lessons 13-18. Under Level 3 Lessons 19-24, the video for Level 3 Lessons 25-30 is accidentally posted. I hope that made sense! Thank you so much! These reviews are wonderful!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

    • Threya Ober,

And for some strange reason, after refreshing my page, everything is showing correctly now! How strange! Please disregard my previous message! Thank you! 🙂

  3. Marilyn,

TTMIK, I hope you continue to do these review sessions for Levels 4+. They have been so helpful. 감사합니다.

우리 반말로 이야기하자!!! : ) Let’s talk in casual language!

    반말로 코멘트 남겨 줘 : ) 👇🏻

    • Heather Graham,

한국에서 살 동안 맛있는 음식을 먹고 많았어. 빨리 돌아가고 싶어.

    • Marilyn,

흥미로운 점은 반말을 말하는 것이 어렵다는 것. This sentence took me the longest to create. I’m not sure it’s even correct. I feel very uncomfortable writing it for some reason. Perhaps because it’s the first time writing in 반말, as everything I’ve ever written in 한글 up to this point has been in 존댓말.

    • judith,

와, 한국어 공부가 이렇게 재미있을 줄 몰랐어 !

    • Elina Einolander,

다음 주에 남자친구랑 동물원에 갈 거야. 난 동물을 정말 좋아해. 동물원에 간 다음에 편의점에 갈 거야.

    • Olga,

주말에 나랑 같이 극장에 가서 영화 볼래?

    • Esther Kumi,

진짜 수고하셨어! 저의 한국말 이해가 요즘에 많이 개선되었어.

We will be reviewing Level 3 lessons 19-24 next week on April 10 at 9:00 am (KST).
If you have any questions about these lessons, please leave a comment here. Hyunwoo will answer them during the live class!

    • Malin,

      Lesson 20 question
This is not a grammar question per say but in one of the sample sentences you used “food” and I have a question regarding this word and its synonyms. When I learn a foreign language to make it easy on myself, I try to consciously learn an active vocabulary and a passive one (it will of course happen automatically but still). If I actively tried to use just one word for food is that possible or are there nuances to the meanings of 밥, 먹을 것 and 음식?

    • Malin,

      Lesson 21 question
If the descriptive verb is a 하다 verb will it be 한데 or still 하는데. I think there was a difference between the two when you covered them in lessons 13 and 14 but wasn’t sure if the same rule applies here.

  8. Hyunwoo Sun,

  9. Jeremy,

Thank you so much for these live revision videos. I just finished level 2 and watching those recordings was very helpful.
Would it be possible to make the recordings available to download or let them be on the website permanently? I’m about to start level 3 and I”m sure I would benefit from the upcoming level 3 live classes recording in a couple of weeks/months from now.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you for studying Korean with us! We actually had the same concern. So, to allow more learners to review with our live classes, we recorded the lessons and made them into online courses!

  10. Marilyn,

For some reason I can’t post my homework as a reply to the instructions. So I’ll post here.
나는 저녁을 먹기 전에, 운동을 해요.

  11. Sandy S. Vera V.,

I have a question, in the example of this sentence: 저는 아침에만 집 청소를 해요. Why is “청소를” used and it’s not: 저는 아침에만 집 청소해요? Thanks!

  12. sandhya iyer,

@Talktomeinkorean team – could you please recheck the above uploaded rewatch video class for level 3 – lesson 7 to 12 (class ended 27 march). It is for level 1 instead of level 3. Kindly check and I would like to request for the correct video recording of the mentioned lessons.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

    • Cristina Meleg,

How do you create an adjective clause that uses more descriptive verbs for a single noun? ( EX: Is a smart, talented and tall person which is singing now. )

    • Malin,

Lesson 14 is putting my brain’s word order logic to the test. Is this the most natural way to create adjective clauses such as “the mountain that I climb” “the teacher who was late” etc?

    • Sonja Jordan,

I understand that 다른 데 means somewhere else. Is this the first time we are being shown this expression or is there a previous lesson i should review to learn more about 데? (Lesson 16 pg. 107)

    • Olena,

If 위해서 is used in written language what can we use instead in casual, spoken conversations? (Lesson 17)

  16. Hyunwoo Sun,

  17. Karla Evans,

Is there a Super Intense Review Kit for level 3?

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We’re sorry that our ‘Super Intense Review Kits’ only cover up to Level 2, but we are currently developing new review courses that will cover higher levels. These courses will be designed to focus on practicing output skills, such as speaking and writing in Korean.

  18. Talk To Me In Korean,

    [Question thread] 질문은 여기에 써주세요!
We will be reviewing Level 3 lessons 7-12 next week on March 27 at 9:00 am (KST).
If you have any questions about these lessons, please leave a comment here. Hyunwoo will answer them during the live class!

    • 이케서린,

I have a question about the ㅂ 불규칙 … It seems like when the verb is descriptive, it has the irregular ㅂ form when it is something transitory, not permanent. For example, temperature vs. shape. (덥다 & 좁다). Is there any pattern to this, or does one need to simply memorize each ㅂ verb/adjective?

    • Michelle,

      Level 3 Lesson 7 -아/어/여서
How do you tell when to use -아/어/여서 instead of -고 when linking action verbs? I think I get confused because sentences that just use “and” to link two actions in English sometimes get translated to -고 in Korean, but then sometimes get translated with -아/어/여서 instead.
      감사합니다!

    • Sarah,

      Level 3, Lesson 8 – 같아요

The lessons states that if 같아요 is used with -(이)랑/하고 then it means “to be the same as” but if it used without -(이)랑/하고 then it means “to seem like…” or “to look like…”, but one of the examples is confusing to me.

“우리는 나이가 같아요.” is translated as “We have the same age.” or “For us, the age is the same.” In this sentence 같아요 is used without -(이)랑/히고, but it is translated as “to be the same” rather than “it seems like…”.

Can you explain why this is different than the rule? Is it because of the subject marking particle?

      Thank you!

    • Marilyn,

안녕하세요! In Level 3, Lesson 11 we will be looking at the ㅂ irregular. Is it safe to say (generalize) that all irregularities only have an irregular form when the suffix coming after them starts with a vowel? (르 irregular – Level 3 lesson 24, ㄷ irregular – Level 3 Lesson 26)
      Example
      맵다 – to be spicy
맵고 맛있아요 (It’s spicy and delicious.)
Because of the suffix 고 (and) is used here the ㅂ irregular form does not go into play as 고 doesn’t start with a vowel.

As an aside, I’m sorry I’m often unable to make your live classes. But I get so much out of watching the re-runs. Thank you for doing these. 감사합니다!

  19. Hyunwoo Sun,

    • Malin,

I know this is late so you might not see it but in Lesson 4 one of the instances you would use the 을 까요 form is when you talk to yourself. Would you actually use the polite form then? I remember you guys saying in one lesson that you never do if you are talking to yourself or did I misunderstand that?

  22. Hyunwoo Sun,

[Homework thread] 숙제 여기에 써 주세요!

    여러분은 언젠가 뭘 하고 싶어요?
What do you want to do someday?

    • Crystal,

    • Brieeestudies,

    • Elina Einolander,

      언젠가 한국에 가고 싶어요.

    • Malin,

언젠가 한국어로 소설을 읽을 수 있는 거 제 소원이에요.
The whole reason why I started learning Korean was to be able to read this one Korean novel that I just love in its original language 🙂 . I am not sure if this sentence work. It feels like I need another particle after “거” but since I can’t figure out which one I decided to leave it out.

  23. Sonja Jordan,

언젠가 한국어를 더 잘 말할 거예요.

  24. Esther Kumi,

숙제: 언젠가 TOPIK 시험에 합격하도록 노력할 거예요
