I received my TTMIK text and workbooks last week and I am truly enjoying learning and following along with the videos. I’m a self learner with a goal of being fluent or as close to fluent as possible in 2 years for my first trip to Korea. Thank you guys so much for this program, it is so helpful and it makes learning fun too.

  4. Tom Farmer,

Excellent course. I’ve had some Korean study thirty years ago. Now at age 60 I am picking it up again. The structure, review, quizzes, listening, etc. together are very effective, and have built my confidence.

    • STEPHANIE GILLETTE,

Hello Tom! I have been studying for a while and this is the first time I am even leaving a message for someone, (social media sometimes is scary, and I avoid it mostly). But I wanted to ask if you had a study group or partner to work with. I’m an older learner from the US, ( I won’t disclose my age, but what is considered classic rock was just rock in my youth), and I find I really struggle with sentence structure and trying to remember all the vocabulary. I just finished level 1, and I maybe understood 1/3 of the end dialogue. Argh!!! I have limited time resources as I am a nurse and work late shifts, so usually people are asleep when I am up. Sooo, if you do have a group or would like to study with someone, I would appreciate the help. And to anyone else who reads this, sorry. I just lack social skills in forums like this.

  5. Ashleigh B,

    Hello~

Since March this year, I’ve been learning Korean and I’m to lesson 18 in this course series (I try to be consistent with studying but have a few courses I cycle through to keep things fresh). I’m so excited to continue on this journey! TTMIK 감사합니다!!

  6. Monica Storbeck,

Hello there. I have started learning Korean in April 10, 2021 using a German online app., but continued searching for something better and with a greater fun factor and – voilà!- I have found TTMIK! Of course, I’m still on Level 1, lesson 22. At the moment I’m taking it slowly, reviewing everything . The concept is really very good. I still cannot believe it that I am able to read and write ( still at a slow pace, ok?) and count – what I had considered to be more hieroglyphs . Thanks to TTMIK Team, very good job indeed 🙂

    • Lily Onyemaobi,

      Me too 😁😁

    • Hans-William Kernen,

We started around the same time. I am on level 22. I find it fun too and spending a lot of time studying and practising. My goal is to finish level one this week. “fighting!”

    • Shugoofa Azizi,

Oha. Girl. Me too. I’ve started learning Korean in April.

    • Peaches Liverpool,

Thank you! This is really helpfull ^^

    • Jéssika Monteiro,

      thanks <3

    • Sir Ghoullan,

hi, just to help you out, i’d like to say that “it’s is youtube” doesnt make sense. This is because “it’s” means “it is”, so saying “it’s is youtube” is the same as saying “it is is youtube” and that doesnt make sense. All you need to do is remove the “is” and it becomes “it’s youtube”

    • Thrishani Ponnuthurai,

Hi, I think she meant to write it as “It’s in YouTube”. And that makes more sense than “It’s YouTube”

  7. Tricia Ricketts,

Great study plan. I have to admit, I’ve been a bit lazy towards it but working to overcome that. Thank you Hyun nu si and kyeon un si. (Apologies for the spellings)

  8. Antara Khadria,

Just completed this level, and even wrote out a sample dialogue exchange trying to incorporate most of the concepts I’d learnt (I’ve posted this on my studygram)! I love how the TTMIK team have made this format such that important grammar points are introduced through everyday conversations. This really helps in efficient learning and retaining the concepts. The workbook is really helpful in the range of exercises it provides, and also in the way it tests your proficiency in vocabulary/grammar points from previous lesssons. Additionally, the review quiz on the website after each lesson is a good refresher, especially since it resets after you’ve taken it once (so you can take it again whenever you want to), and the latest Level Review added is such a bonus! 😀

I started learning this language for various reasons, but now I end up looking forward to another lesson just for the purpose of learning itself! TTMIK really makes this so much fun, it’s basically the thing I look forward to when I wake up everyday these days. I feel like I’m in the same room as Hyun-woo-nim and Kyeong-eun-nim during the audio lessons, and actually crack up at some of their exchanges. Thank you for making us feel so involved in this otherwise solo learning process. Really excited to start Level 2 now! TTMIK 정말 고맙습니다, 사랑합니다!! <3

  9. Michell,

Excellent learning format; building foundational skills for each new chapter. It is very helpful to have multiple resources (book, ebook, discussion websites and videos) to stimulate the different areas of the brain’s learning center. My brain may be a bit slow retaining the information, but, I still celebrate my progress!

  10. Eric H.,

Hi there. I like these lessons. Can someone tell me what the role of the word 이 is in these dialogs below? It doesn’t look like a subject marking particle. Thanks.
A: TV 보고 싶어요. (Level 1 Track 30)
    B: 몇 번이요?

    A: 얼마나 기다렸어요? (Level 1 Track 48)
    B: 많이 안 기다렸어요.

    • Luiza Costa,

In the first case, they added 이요 as a polite way to end the sentence. It can sound rude if you just say a word and don’t end it with (이)요. In the example, the person asked “몇 번?” it’s not a full sentence, it has no verbs, just a simple word, but it would sound impolite to simply ask that, so they add (이)요 to make it sound polite. The rule is: add 이요 after a word that has a final consonant, add 요 after a word without a final consonant (exception is a word that ends with ㄹ – just add 요)
      e.g.: 김치요 – kimchi | 공책이요 – notebook | 정말요? – really?

The second case, 많이 is an adverb, it means many, or a lot, the 이 is part of the word itself, so no worries. I hope this helps

    • Emily,

      I didn’t know that was a thing – thanks!

    • Humaira Huda,

Thank you for the clarification. It definitely made it easier to understand! :))

    • Nicole Pinkley,

I’m not exactly sure about the first one, as I believe there’s a mistake. As for the second one, assuming you are looking at the 이 in 많이, it’s part of the word, it’s not a particle. 많다 is an adjective that means “to be a lot”. The adjective form of 많다 is 많이.

I’ll attempt the second one. I’m pretty sure it should be 몇 번이에요. If that’s the case, that means the 이 comes from 이다 which means “to be”.

In both these situations, 이 is not a subject marker, but part of other words. Hope this helps 🙂

  11. Jason Lee Elliott,

시험을 정말 좋아요. 중급 학습자이지만 기본 사항을 복습했으면 좋겠어요. 만점을 못 받으면 조금 답답하지만 약점을 찾아볼 수 있어요. 🙂
Love the tests. Even though I am an intermediate learner, I like to review my fundamentals. It is a bit frustrating when when I don’t get a perfect score, but it sure does help me recognize my weaknesses 🙂

  12. Vicente,

Just wondering. Where do you learn the hangul? (I already know) but this only shows vocabulary… not grammar at all.

    • Pyro,

I think you have to buy the book about it, or maybe they’ve posted some youtube videos about it. Otherwise, you’ll have to source another website or place to learn it.

    • Pamela Branham,

There is actually a course. It called Learn and write in Korean (Hanguel). I just finished it. Very helpful. I’m following the course map and it was the first course for beginners.

    • tae's bunny,

where can ii find that book

  13. Jessica Gershman,

I just finished Level 1!!! TTMIK is the best at Really teaching Korean and I’ve tried many different resources. It’s so straightforward and love how each lesson is one or two words. Each lesson is so useful in actually speaking about daily life and being able to practice it. So happy I found this!! 감사합니다 !!
저는 한국 갈 거여요!! Next year 😊

  14. Olmiche,

How did you all get a Korean keyboard on the computer. I have it on my phone, but not my computer??

    • ANDREA GILES,

go to settings and go to keyboard

    • ıllıllıPICOıllıllı,

I added the language from the settings, then used stickers I made on my english keyboard.

    • Halina Grudziecka-Plinta,

You can add new keyboard in general settings, in language preferences. Then you can change it anytime, it’s in the right corner of the screen, in menu bar as language shortcut (ENG or KR). Remember that Korean keyboard uses also Roman characters, you can change it with right ALT

    • Olmiche,

I did and I am ble to use it. The Italki teacher helped me with the downloading and making sure I did it correctly

    • Olmiche,

I didn’t know it’s only romanized and not Hangeul, now I know, thank you.

    • Kaylie Lam,

      If you have a Macbook:
Go to Settings, then click on Keyboard, then Input Sources, then there is a + around the left bottom corner and click Korean. It shows some different buttons for which letter (or consonants and vowels), but you can choose the one you prefer. I prefer “HNC Romaja”.

    • Olmiche,

I have a PC, but really appreciate the advice.

    • Giovana Guedes Gomes,

I think that the keyboard of Korean computers doesn’t use Hangul, but the Roman alphabet, just like in China.

    • Olmiche,

oh okay, thank you. good to know

    • Courtney Beckers,

with my computer i press ctrl+space and can switch between the languages that i’ve added. maybe that will work on yours?

  15. Tania Marsack Hoy,

I am so happy I am learning through TTMIK ! I have learned so much so far. There were times I questioned my choice to study this language haha! It’s hard! But I am powering through, and making good progress. I am looking forward to the next levels. I am keeping my goals realistic and so far I have started accomplishing these goals! TTMIK 감사합니다!!!

    • Khan Gulan,

Are you able to to understand koreans conversation or can you hold a conversation with someone.after this lesson I wanna know should I start learning from here?

    • Ana Luísa,

You should definitely start from here, it’s an amazing resource

  16. Jessica Gershman,

    오늘 누가 운동했어요?

    • Zee,

    • SHAHD,

      저도요 🙆🏻‍♀️👏

  17. Ian Paul B. Saligumba,

I finally finished Level 1 😍 TTMIK is the best and the most affordable place to study Korean 👌 I am so glad that I remembered almost all of the words in the review part. I can’t wait to start Level 2 and hopefully, I can sustain my interest in learning Korean. Fighting 💪 Btw, do you have tips for beginners like me?

    • Heather,

Hi, just like you, I’m also a beginner in TTIK’s course because I’ve been learning through different resources. But I can tell you that consistency is the KEY!! It’s also good to always review on fundamentals and learn a lot of vocabularies so you can apply what you have learned. You should also set a schedule and goals to achieve per day. It’s not necessary to study for long periods everyday but at least 1-2 hours a day consistently surely helped me a lot!

    • Giraffe,

Thank you for the feedback on TTMIK! I was really looking for a review that was accurate. 😀

  18. No Hsu,

    0.0

    • Imoni Davis,

Dang thats a lot in this course this is goood

  19. Ana Isabel Gonçalves,

Can someone explain this to me “A: 누구였어요?
    A: Who was it?
    B: 동생이었어요.
B: It was my younger brother/sister.” Why are the verbs different?

    • Carmelo,

동생 ends in a consonant so you use the full form, 이었어요.
누구 ends in a vowel so you contract it:

      누구 + 이었어요 = 누구였어요

    • Tarmaie Stewart,

동생 ends in a consonant so it’s 이었어요. 누구 ends in a vowel so it contracts to 였어요.

    • No Hsu,

you do not need to understand know ,
with the time pass by, and you will understand by learn more korean.

  20. Onyx Raizel Sophia,

I just finished the final review. I’m thrilled that I was able to fully understand a 2 minute long conversation in Korean without pausing the audio or needing to look at the transcript. T^T

    • Kaylie Lam,

      Congrats!! Good job!!!

  21. Carmen Feaster,

Hello, I just finished Lesson 5. Is there a place where we can get even more practice or examples of the teachings from each lesson? I already have the Level 1 Workbook & Textbook, but I was wondering if there are printable worksheets from each lesson for practice? Even for Premium members?

  22. Kim CHAMBERS,

감사합니다! 저는 한국어를 십 년 동안 배우려고 노력했습니다 그러나 할 수 없었습니다. 드디요 TTMIK 때문에 배우고 있습니다. 다시 한 번 감사합니다!
You help me so much with pronunciation and confidence to speak! I look forward everyday to another lesson. You teach in such a fun way you make it easy to learn. Actually, I recently joined a group with 7 other members who are all trying to learn Korean and it is amazing to see their progress because they started with TTMIK.

  24. Kevin Laird,

Another beginner here just finished Level 1, the lessons have been really great so far and well laid out, looking forward to more.

If there’s ooooone suggestion I’d want to leave, it’s that it would have been good to have included the words for ‘present’ and ‘birthday’ somewhere, maybe in the numbers lessons? These two words were so key for the first half of the Essential Review task and made it kinda confusing to try and follow along. Especially with 물, which was a very common example word, sounding so similar to 선물 when they are talking quickly.
