  1. Sheelie Kittie,

    Hi all at ttmik!

I just sign up for being a member. I am a masters student in linguistics and korean is one of my target languages for my school work.

So, Grammar is very important for me. What resources do I now have access to as a member? Where do I begin?

    Thank you so much!

  2. Dennis,

I initially learned ํ•œ๊ธ€ and some grammar from Billy who is of course a great ์„ ์ƒ๋‹˜.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I also thoroughly enjoyed countless episodes of Jolly and์˜๊ตญ๋‚จ์ž , which actually made me purchase the TTMIK Text and Workbooks for the first few levels.
But subscribing to the website and revisiting the courses really takes studying to the next level.
    ์ •๋ง ๊ฐ์‚ฌํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Keep improving your Korean skills with TTMIK in the future! ํ•œ๊ตญ์–ด ๊ณต๋ถ€ ํŒŒ์ดํŒ…! ๐Ÿ’ช

  3. Manthwaleng Magaga,

If we have questions on the lessons is there somewhere we can go to ask?

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

You can just write your question right here!

  4. Cora,

How can I find a PDF or something else digital to go along with the lessons? Is it free, or do I have to pay for it?

    • Cora,

Is there a free version, or do I have to buy them?

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We offer grammar books in both print and electronic formats. Feel free to choose between the printed or digital version. Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜„

  5. Ryan Harrison,

I wish there were more visual lessons available. Especially for the harder lessons. The audio is great and I can easily follow along with my book but I am a visual learner. I think I would be able to retain the information more if I could watch the lesson instead of only listening to it.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We’ll try to create visual lessons. Thanks for the great suggestion!

  6. bummerhous,

I desperately miss these lessons being available on Spotify. They were a part of my daily routine, either to review the lesson from the night before or as preparation for the lesson Iโ€™d be going into the night of. I often listened to these recordings in the car or in the shower and while I understand the focus has been on the new Stories app, I would love to see the Core Grammar podcast available on the TTMIK Audio app! It would be significantly more convenient then having to listen through a browser. I love these lessons side by side with text and workbooks, as itโ€™s sometimes easier for me to hear it explained out loud as opposed to reading alone. I have a friend studying Japanese that is supremely jealous of all the tools TTMIK has to offer and this was the one I would boast about most, lessons on Spotify that matched the books I bought and the audio app that paired with them as well.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Unfortunately, due to frequent illegal replication and distribution of MP3 files, we regret to inform you that we have discontinued providing them. We are actively working on finding a solution that prevents illegal copying and distribution while enhancing the learning effectiveness and convenience for our subscribers.

We know it might be inconvenient, but please listen to the audio on the website for the time being. Thank you. โ˜บ๏ธ

    • Jana Cruz,

Agreed! I wish they set up a similar subscription system for Spotify that allowed you to still access the Spotify lessons.

  7. Rei,

i really don’t like the audio lessons. as things get more complex, i feel that that graphic videos lessons would be better, like you did with lesson 9/particles which i had to find on youtube

    • Erv N,

I love the audio lessons AND the graphic video lessons. Each helps in a different way. Redundancy is a great tool in learning.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We will try to create it as soon as possible! ๐Ÿค“

  8. Mandy,

Completed Level 1 and learned a lot! Thank you so much TTMIK for these resources! Canโ€™t wait to start lesson 2!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Congratulations! Surely, you will be able to enjoy studying Level 2 as well! ํ•œ๊ตญ์–ด ๊ณต๋ถ€ ํŒŒ์ดํŒ…!

  9. ,

This is an amazing course! I’ve been studying Korean through your website for less than a week and am so pleased with how much I’ve progressed. I also think the bite-sized lessons are just the perfect length for absorbing info.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you for loving the TTMIK lessons. There are many other interesting courses available, so we hope you will continue to study Korean diligently through various courses! ๐Ÿฅฐ

  10. Veronica,

I have been thinking a lot about where to start my journey with Korean and even though I have not so much time because of work and University, this course has been life-changing for me. It is so easy to follow, the explanations totally clear, I can do a lesson even when I am going somewhere from my Phone and I am so happy that in a week I have learned so much. Thank you for your hard work on these courses, I am so happy to have chosen to spend my money with you and I hope to say proudly one day to have learned Korean thanks to you!!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Many thanks for your thoughtful comment!! We are really glad to hear that TTMIK has been helpful. We hope you continue to study hard and become a master of Korean. Hope you enjoy learning with us. ๐Ÿฅฐ

  11. Tรขm Uyรชn,

In lesson 7, you said that ๊ฑฐ/๊ฒƒ can be only used for object. But in Lesson 23 – ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ, you make the sentence ์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š”? (Who is this?) instead of ์ด ์‚ฌ๋žŒ/๋ถ„. Please help me explain that

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

That sentence is sometimes used in spoken language. It’s used when referring to objects. For example, when looking at a figure, you can say, ์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์•ผ?.

  12. Korean,

Can anyone help me to understand why you use โ€œ์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š”โ€ instead of โ€œ์ด์‚ฌ๋žŒ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š”โ€?

    • Shae Rose,

The first example is, “Who is this?” and the 2nd is, “Who is this person/man/woman?” so word choice is correct.

  13. Lisa Driscoll,

Terrible website. Cannot advance lessons. Iโ€™ve completed 5 and it wonโ€™t mark completed beyond lesson 2.
Also, Audio files for dictation are hard to find.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

At that time, there was probably a website maintenance in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. If the issue persists, please send an email to “[email protected]”. ๐Ÿฅฒ

  14. Ellen,

I canโ€™t access the lessons. I tried clicking on lesson 10 but nothing happens.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

At that time, there was probably a website maintenance in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. If you still cannot access, please send an email to “[email protected]”. ๐Ÿ™

  15. Jess Agosto,

I canโ€™t seem to access the audios to hear the lessons. It worked for me before but it no longer is โ˜น๏ธ

    • Jess Agosto,

Never mind itโ€™s just not working on my iPhone browser for some weird reason. But I love this site Iโ€™m learning so much.

  16. eyitsdrew,

Would LOVE some clarification on this!!!
    IN LESSON #9:
Why do they use the example, ์ด์ฑ… for “this book”?’
I thought they would use ์ด๊ฑฐ์ฑ… for “this book” since we learned that we learned that ์ด๊ฑฐ meant “This/This thing” not just “์ด”.

    • Shae Rose,

In addition to what Cora and Daniel said, you wouldnt use ์ด๊ฑฐ ์ฑ… to suffice for it is a book, it has to be ์ด๊ฑฐ ์ฑ…์ด์—์š”.

    • Cora,

๋„ค, ์ด means “this”, and ๊ฑฐ means “thing, item, stuff”. So it would make sense for this book to be “์ด์ฑ…” and not “์ด๊ฑฐ์ฑ…”.

      ์ด๊ฑฐ ์ฑ… – This is a book.
      ์ด์ฑ… – This book

    • Daniel Rios,

์ด์ฑ… is “this book”, in the most basic form, with ์ด serving as “this” ์ด๊ฑฐ is more like “this is”, so ์ด๊ฑฐ ์ฑ… is more like “this is a book”

  17. Korean,

I’ve moved past lesson 23, but I’m still confused about the use of “์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š””. I thought that you weren’t supposed to use ์ด๊ฑฐ when referring to people. That being said, why is “์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š”” used instead of “์ด์‚ฌ๋žŒ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š””? Does “์ด์‚ฌ๋žŒ ๋ˆ„๊ตฌ์˜ˆ์š”” sound awkward (or less “normal”) in every day conversation?

  18. Cora,

    ์•ˆ๋…•!
I had a question about pronunciation. In lesson 12 (level 1), the romanization for ์ž˜ ๋จน๊ฒ ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค is [jal meok-kket-sseum-ni-da]. It seems like the “์Šต” sound should be more like a “sseup” sound instead of a “sseum” sound. Is this just for easier pronunciation of the word?

    ํ‹ฐํ‹ฐ๋ฏน ๊ฐ์‚ฌํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค!!

    ์ง€ํฌ, ์‚ฌ๋ž‘

    • Cora,

      Thank you for the tip!

    • Andrae S,

That’s really just how they make sound when ใ…‚ is followed by ใ„ด due to nasalization. Same for ๊ฐ์‚ฌํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค it comes out as kamsahamnida. Or ์‚ฌ๋ผ์ž…๋‹ˆ๋‹ค (This is Sarah) comes out as Sarah-imnida. It happens to ใ„ฑ and ใ… as well like how the word ๊ตญ๋ฏผ(nation) is pronounced koong-min instead of kookmin. I hope this makes sense.

  19. Cora,

    ์•ˆ๋…•!

  20. Sriram Sitharaman,

I have a question about this sample dialogue conversation from Lesson 9
    A: ์ด๊ฑฐ ๋ณต์ˆญ์•„์˜ˆ์š”?
    A: Is this a peach?
    B: ์•„๋‹ˆ์š”. ๊ทธ๊ฒƒ์€ ์‚ฌ๊ณผ์˜ˆ์š”.
    B: No, That’s an apple.
    A: ์ด๊ฒƒ์ด ๋ณต์ˆญ์•„์˜ˆ์š”?
A: Then is THIS a peach?
    B: ๋„ค, ๋งž์•„์š”.
    B: Yes, that’s right.

When A says ์ด๊ฒƒ์ด ๋ณต์ˆญ์•„์˜ˆ์š”?, why it is ์ด๊ฒƒ instead of just ์ด๊ฑฐ, if it is ์ด๊ฑฐ, then is ์ด๊ฑฐ๊ฐ€ ๋ณต์ˆญ์•„์˜ˆ์š”? same/correct as well? In general when use ์ด๊ฒƒ/์ด๊ฑฐ?

    • TheNinja,

I am sorry that I cannot answer all the questions but from what I know ์ด๊ฑฐ is actually ์ด๊ฒƒ but the ใ…… is omitted. So if you are trying to add a subject particle you have to use ์ด๊ฒƒ so it becomes ์ด๊ฒƒ์ด. ์ด๊ฑฐ๊ฐ€ is wrong. I hope I helped ^_^

  21. Stephen Bretherton,

I’m looking for a PDF to assist me with the course, Just signed up today

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We offer grammar books in both print and electronic formats. Feel free to choose between the printed or digital version. Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • Michael Barton,

I have used “CONTROL P” i the past and it worked. But I’ve found the workbooks to be soooo much more helpful. There is one for each level and they match the audio lessons as well as written words and phrases.

  22. Fred Pienkos,

I wish there was a review PDF.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We offer grammar books in both print and electronic formats. Feel free to choose between the printed or digital version. Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • Michael Barton,

There used to be but I think they removed them when streamlining the site in August. The workbooks are better than the pdf in my opinion. I do have level1 pdfs saved on my work computer

  23. Dostonbek,

Hi, I have just bought the subscription and started my journey. During the audio, I will need a pdf format of the lessons. Because, you know, it makes me uncomfortable to learn grammar rules from the site page. Where I can find the PDFs of the lessons?

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We offer grammar books in both print and electronic formats. Feel free to choose between the printed or digital version. Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • Michael Barton,

The workbooks for each level are great. I know I know more money. Control P works also.

  24. Na Chhychhy,

์•ˆ๋…•ํ•˜์„ธ์š”! Are there any rules for writing numbers in words?

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

I apologize, but I didn’t quite grasp the intent of your question. Could you please rephrase it? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fred Pienkos,

From what I can tell, unless you spell them out, like ํ•˜๋‚˜, they use (1) roman numbers in writing.

  25. vderamec,

Great course, engaging in every step.
The final review is quite helpful – so are the exercises at the end of each lesson.
